Kat is an only child, and so our son or daughter will be the first grandchild for Kat’s mom and dad. They are both so excited to have a grandkid! They’re both so good with kids and they’ll have so much fun together. Kat’s dad worked for the World Bank and has traveled all over the world and has so many stories to tell- he’s also a sailor! Kat’s mom is an incredible painter, kids love her because she always finds a way to relate to their magical little worlds. A fringe benefit is that they live part of the year in the Italian countryside in a gorgeous farmhouse that they restored, with an olive orchard and grape vineyard! They retired early to the home of their dreams, and spend their days making olive oil, wine, and exploring the Italian hill towns near where they live. We were married on their land, and it’s one of the most beautiful places on the planet. We’ll be traveling their regularly, and Kat’s dad will teach the little one Italian, and who knows, maybe one day to sail on the Mediterranean sea! The rest of the year they live in Washington, DC, and we’re excited to visit them there so that we can take our little one to the Space Museum, The Smithsonian, and explore all the cool things our nation’s capital has to offer.

Andrew’s dad is a retired neurosurgeon, and his mom a super talented artist- weaving tapestries is her thing! He has two sisters, both married, one with two beautiful children who will be great cousins and playmates for our new little one! Andrew’s other sister has several horses and lives on a hose farm, and would love the chance to teach our little one to ride! Andrew’s mom is an art historian, and loves to go to museums with her grandkids so will definitely be taking our little one on lots of trips to see all kinds of cool art. Andrew’s dad plays the piano, the ukulele and the bagpipes, and one of Andrew’s favorite memories of childhood is his sitting on his dad’s knee with his sister while his bad played all kinds of rock-n-roll piano songs while they sang along. They live in a super cute seaside town in New England not too far from us, and we’ll be heading there to eat fresh lobster and clam chowder with them on the regular!

We also have a ton of friends, many with children, who can’t wait to meet their new little friend! Our friends come from many different walks of life: artists, filmmakers, entrepreneurs, social and environmental justice activists, professors, actors, writers….we could go on and on about the many talented and warm, lovely people we are blessed to have in our lives. Our child will have the benefit of being surrounded by a wide array of life experiences, cultures, and most importantly…..love and support!
